The UGA Hockey Foundation was founded in 2011 by Head Coach John Hoos, and enthusiastic supporter David Brooks. The Foundation was formed to serve as a support body for the UGA Hockey team, with a mission to provide financial and logistical assistance, raise public awareness of, and to help facilitate the continued growth of the UGA Hockey program.

In the spring 2011 Mr. Brooks and Coach Hoos enlisted the support of former player and longtime supporter Joseph Fisher, among others, to assist with formalizing and incorporating the Foundation.  The Foundation was registered with the State of Georgia in 2011, and a board of directors was appointed in early 2012 that included Mr. Brooks, Coach Hoos, Joseph Fisher, team founder Larry Hall, and former rink owner and current assistant coach Gus Saponari. Mr. Brooks was appointed by the board to serve as the first President of the Foundation.

The UGA Hockey Foundation has applied for 501(c)(3) non-profit organization status with the IRS, and currently operates as a non-profit organization.

The Foundation has played an integral role in bringing ice hockey to Athens in conjunction with the Classic Center in downtown Athens. The Foundation oversees the UGA Hockey Booster Club, which offers annual membership packages that provides support for the Foundation and subsequently the UGA Hockey team.
