Ice Crew

The Ice Crew Spirit Team is will be a group of male and female UGA students who will be engaged in promoting spirit and excitement at all home UGA Ice Hockey games.   They will also serve as public relations ambassadors for UGA Hockey and promote the program on the UGA campus and throughout the Athens community.

The overall purpose of the spirit team will be to increase crowd involvement at home games through a variety of programs, events, and activities centered around the games held in the Classic Center Akins Arena in Athens.

It is not necessary to be able to ice skate but we do hope that some team members will be able to skate.  However, you must provide your own skates and bring them with you to home games.

Each team member will be interviewed by the UGA Hockey Foundation.  The panel will be looking for young men and women who are outgoing, have a nice appearance, and have the spirit and enthusiasm to help to lead a crowd of attendees at hockey games.

Because this is also a public relations position, team members must be friendly, have a positive attitude, and possess a willingness to help attendees engage in the game.

Team members will be expected to attend as many home games as possible.  There will be 10-12 home games during the regular season.  Since the team will consist of UGA students it is understood that there will be some conflicts with schedules.  The expectation is that members will commit to attend at least 7-9 home games.  If you must be absent it would be expected that the team captain or the Foundation Board President would be notified in advance.

Members shall at all times exercise good citizenship and conduct themselves in a manner that projects a positive image for them, the UGA Hockey Team and the Foundation.

Uniforms will be provided to each member of the team.  Because the arena is generally cold you will be given a jacket, pants, and a shirt.  It is expected that you wear the official outfit at all home games and at any appearances where you would be asked to join the team.  It is also expected that you maintain the outfit and keep them clean.

As a rule there will be no practice sessions.  However, there may be an occasion to call the team together for a meeting.  You would be expected to attend these meetings.

Arrive at the Classic Center at least 30 minutes prior to the doors opening to the public and plan on staying until 30 minutes after the game ends.

Alcoholic beverages are served at the Classic Center during hockey games.  However, you will be prohibited from consuming any alcoholic beverages before or during a game.

In addition to greeting our guests you will be asked to assist with setting up and taking down some promotional activities which will help promote and raise money for the team.  These will include the “Chuck-A-Puck” activity, raffles, and other promotional activities.

Hockey has two intermissions.  During these intermissions you will engage in some fun activities with the audience such as shooting t-shirts with a shirt cannon.  During games you will also help motivate the audience with cheers as time permits when the team scores, etc.

This season will be the second year for our Ice Crew Spirit Team.  It is our hope that you will join the program and help make UGA Hockey an enjoyable sport for UGA students and all hockey fans.
